A HISA Grant Shower for U.S. Veteran

What is the HISA grant you might ask?

The HISA Grant (not a loan) provides financial assistance to veterans for medically necessary home improvements and structural alterations. These changes are meant to facilitate easier access to and within the home, increase safety, and support the overall well-being of the veteran.

Unlike some other VA housing grants, the HISA Grant can be used for both service-connected and non-service-connected disabilities. This makes it unique and accessible to a broader group of veterans.

Who Is Eligible?
Veterans may be eligible for the HISA Grant if they:

  • Are enrolled in the VA health care system.
  • Have a medical need for home alterations as determined by a VA physician.
  • Have either a service-connected disability, or a non-service-connected disability with a condition that impacts daily living.

Eligibility is determined by the VA, and the grant amount depends on the nature of the disability. While we do not determine eligibility, we have helped scores of veterans navigate the process and make it as smooth as possible.

Grant Amounts

As of current VA guidelines:

  • Veterans with service-connected disabilities may receive up to $6,800.
  • Veterans with non-service-connected disabilities may receive up to $2,000.

What Can the Grant Be Used For?

The HISA Grant covers many possible home improvements that are medically necessary, including:

  • Modifying bathrooms, such as installing walk-in showers with grab bars. This is our specialty.
